Basketball star Yao Ming retires
China’s best-known athlete Yao Ming announced his retirement during his press conference in his hometown Shanghai yesterday.
Ming announced his departure after his last two seasons with Houston Rockets were dogged of injuries.
His dominant play and winning performance along with his extensive humanitarian efforts have made him an international fan favorite and provided an unusual bridge between basketball fans in the United States and China.
Yao added that he planned to focus on his role as owner of the Shanghai Sharks, the team where he started his professional career and which he bought in 2009.
He was the first global sports superstar of China. He also made a lot of endorsements like Nike, Pepsi, McDonalds and China Telecom.
"Today I'm retired from basketball and a door has closed. But elsewhere another is opening and outside that door is a new world waiting for me to explore," Yao Ming said.
"Even though I'm leaving the basketball court I am not leaving the game. The Shanghai Sharks is how my professional life will continue” he added.

Bomb explosion kills 21, 113 wounded
Three blasts of bombs take 21 lives of people and 133 wounded in Mumbai India last Wednesday.
According to the authorities the first explosion was 6:45 P.M. in a famed jewellery market of Jhaveri Bazaar, a minute later the bomb hit the business district of Opera house several miles away from southern Mumbai at 7:05 P.M. and the third bomb exploded at Dadar in central Mumbai.
After the incident bleeding victims were brought by the cargo truck to the nearest hospitals for the medical management.
Home Minister Palaniappan believes that the close timing of the bombings was inferred by the terrorists.
Indian officials refused to speculate the group after the assault. They said there are no claims of responsibility, or firm indication on which group might be behind the attack yet.
Passed attacks have been blamed on Pakistan-based militants because of the Mumbai siege.
US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave their support and expressed distress on the loss of lives and injured people of the incident.

Halle berry gets a R.O
Halle Berry obtained a restraining order against Richard Franco, an alleged stalker who was taken into custody outside of her house last Tuesday night.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Carol Goodson ordered the suspect to stay 100 yards (90 meters) away from the actress and her young daughter after they released it from the jail.
Berry was so frightened especially during at night so she decided to call the authority before the suspect got into her home. She was home alone with her 3-year-old daughter when the police arrested Franco.
“This person has invaded and trampled my security, and I’m scared of him and what he might do to me and to my love ones,” Berry stated.
Before that night, Franco was spotted by Berry and her manager, roaming around the vicinity the night of Monday and Saturday. According to the files, it was Franco’s third arrest for trespassing at the Oscar-winning actress’s home.
Franco was jailed in lieu of $150,000-bail on Tuesday. The hearing on whether to extend the order for three years was scheduled on August 1.
